POKOTABI / Tomoe
鮨割烹 巴
Tomoe in Musashi-Koyama is a long-standing sushi kappo restaurant serving everything from casual nigiri sets to grilled fish, simmered dishes, and savory chawanmushi egg custard, with counter seats and private rooms.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Some evenings call for a casual beer paired with a few pieces of sushi; other nights are best spent savoring grilled fish or braised seasonal catches before finishing with a handful of nigiri. Situated in Musashi-Koyama, Tomoe is a traditional sushi kappo restaurant that accommodates either mood with ease. Alongside approachable individual sets such as Kobai and Wakatake, as well as chirashizushi bowls, the menu features a wide selection of seasonal seafood dishes.
Once settled in, browsing the small plates and grilled options is a rewarding place to begin. The kitchen turns out fragrant grilled dishes that pair naturally with sake, from whole sea bream head (tai kabutoyaki) and rich, fatty yellowtail collar (buri kamayaki) to large grilled hamaguri clams. Diners will also find comforting simmered and steamed dishes that showcase kappo sensibilities, such as chawanmushi savory egg custard topped with yuba tofu skin, crabmeat, and delicate starchy sauce, or sea bream head simmered in sweet soy broth.
For the sushi itself, guests can order favorite pieces individually—including lean tuna, chutoro, kuruma prawn, sea urchin, and salmon roe—or choose a pre-set combination. For those who prefer a guided progression, traditional kaiseki course menus weave together appetizers, sashimi, grilled items, chawanmushi, and nigiri, taking the guesswork out of ordering.
Inside, a relaxed counter accommodates solo diners and casual walk-ins, while private rooms offer quiet comfort for groups. A dedicated children's course featuring sushi rolls, fried prawns, and chawanmushi makes the restaurant particularly accommodating for multi-generational family milestones. From casual weekday lunches to lingering evening dinners, Tomoe provides an inviting neighborhood taste of fish and hospitality.
